Final post

1. Thinking back to what my expectations were of this course I knew it would allow me a chance to expand my understanding of what the concept of art is and how its viewed in the world we live in through the eyes of various people. I believe this course did meet my expectations it was able to go in depth showing so many different styles of art and how they impact the world and how they vary from location to location, it was extremely informative. The course allowed for a vast opportunity to become a more well rounded person over all.
2. After finishing this course I believe my definition hasnt changed a ton and I believe this is due to the way I viewed it before. I always have felt art is a concept that is unique to the individual, it is anything that a person can see, hear, visualize, or understand and in some way have a feeling as a result the feeling can be happiness, sadness, excitement, ect. Thats the power of art to me is the fact that it can be and often is different to every single person.
3. I believe my current favorite artist would be Van Gough due to his ability to create such unique pieces that still have such a lasting impact on art today. He influenced not only some many works of art but also the artist that have created them.
4. My feeling about taking an online class hasn't changed, I knew previously how to take them and what to expect. I was surprised at how well it was able to due an art based course online I would have assumed it would be more difficult to relate and communicate for a class about art but this class was run well and a joy to participate in.

Blog peer Review

Project one review:
1. When looking at the photos in the blog seeing the themes represented I feel the work was done quite well. The images match the theme perfectly and were done with a lot of thoughtfulness to make sure to enrapture the intent.
Sadly the second project wasn't completed so I choose a different classmates to use for that.
2. Again the classmate did a great job selecting images for the use of representing the themes in the project. I wish I had been able to be more creative with this project with the images how my classmates were they did well finding new and different ways to represent the themes.

Project 2 review
1. La Source De La Loue was a image that was the same as one that both my classmate and I used from the art Gallery. Our reason wasn't exactly the same for why we choose it but it was similar, we both were drawn to the darkness in the image it was different form the majority which were brightly colored so something about the darkness and rushing water pull me into the unknown factor about the piece.
2. For the second classmate we did not have any art works that were the same between the two of us. However I do like the pieces they choose they are intriguing and have a good reasoning for picking them. One that I specifically was drawn to and would like to know more about would be The Marina Piccola. This piece is a scene of almost a desert mountain seen where I got the feeling it was one of pure peace and quite this interested me that it was able to demonstrate such calmness.

The process of peer review and reflection I feel is extremely valuable to the learning process especially  with a art class it allows you to get a understanding of how others are seeing the same works of art as you. This creates a new ability to be able to understand the works better your self.
The part I like best about this is having a chance to look into my classmates works they enjoy and to see what they enjoy about them this creates more unity in how we see things or gives a whole new insight on the art work.

As of right now none of my pieces have been commented on but I do look forward to read what people will have written about mine. I want to be able to learn from my classmates to see if they see things in a similar or different way than I do.

Project #5

1. Picasso's work Guernica is a narrative art piece designed in a very interesting way. It is done in a cubist style with very sharp defined lines cutting the major pieces within the art work from each other creating straight lines through out. The color scheme is important to display a dark mentality in the piece. This is done due to the time period it was created. The image has characters in it in seeming dis-pare and suffering all lending to the gravity of the situation the piece is used to represent being the time around world war ll.
2. Picasso was responding to the actions of the Nazi regime that was dismantling Europe at the time the piece was created. The piece was meant to signify the attacks on innocent people and injustice being caused by the Nazi's. The images that are suffering in the painting are the innocent people. The bull like figures are the Nazi's destroying everything in the area.
3. The work that was created is directly related to the actions that were happening at the time. The piece became a symbol of the tragedies of war and violence. Innocent people being killed by the bull of a group the Nazi's. The painting is meant to demonstrate a peaceful opposition to fascism.
4. In the piece the figures on the group that look to be in pain would be the people who were suffering at the hands of the Nazi's. The Nazi's were the figures in the painting that seem to be like a the bull looking creates. The painting is meant to force a feeling of remorse on the hands of the Nazi's and the painting also is meant to be a very surreal image of what war brings.
5. I felt the strengths of this piece was the color and symbolism used to demonstrate the darkness going on in the time. However i felt the weakness was the sbility to connect the images in the piece to images of the time. Without prior knowlwdge of when the piece was done it could be very difficult to make the connections.

Pencil drawing

1.I selected the three inspirational pieces that I did because I found it impressive how portraits could have so much variation and still be a representative work of the person who did the drawing or painting.
2. I selected to do my self  portrait in pencil because I felt it gave me the most control over the lines that I was creating making my portrait as crisp and clean as possible.
3. In creating my self portrait the largest challenge I encountered was trying to make it perfect and to look spot on like me. Knowing im not a artist in the famous sense i felt if I was happy with the piece and that it met my expectations of my self and knowing im not perfect and neither is the drawing then I was happy with it.
4. This piece represents me by showing that no im not perfect or symmetrical or flawless and neither is the work I made. I broke my nose in high school making it look off center and just like in reality it is in the drawing.
5. In this work I made an effort to use lines even if they werent straight lines I wanted to use definite lines to make the pieces outline stand out the most.
6. I did enjoy working on this piece, I have never had a large faith in myself in creating works of art and especially not with creating one of myself but for this I choose to accept what i was creating as a work of myself by myself which was what was most important to myself.
7. I think my final art work is representative of my lack of ability but not lack of trying. Knowing im not the most talented but i put in the effort to create a work in a attempt to represent myself and that whats important to me.

week 13/14 video review

1. Each of the videos I watched allowed me a chance to look at how different styles of art are being displayed and understood in the cultures we have today that may not directly conform to the ideals that existed when the art was being created. It was interesting to see how the view on some art is different depending on the time it is created such as the lowbrow art style which was seen mostly as a hippie movement but is far more in depth than that.
2. The videos relate to the current art project I am working on because in any choice of styles or art to represent it is important to see how it has been viewed and changed over the years or decades since its creation. It never stops being impressive the lengths people will go to in order to ensure the preservation of art.
3. I believe the films were very helpful. The film on lowbrow I found the most interesting because it is such a uncommon style to me. But it is also very interesting and I found it interesting that it got a bad reputation because you can see the results of its style in society in many places even today.

Photo videos

1. I choose the two videos I did because I knew the name Andy Warhol but didn't know much about him so I figured that video would allow me a chance to learn more about a figure I sorta knew about. With the video on Hockney it was also about photography so i wanted to see the difference from that to Warhols works.
2. The key item in the video about Warhol was to show about his famed images of the same faces in many different contexts. To demonstrate how they begin as a negative of a picture to become a multiple variation image. Hockney's video also went into the demonstration of his ability with  camera to create works of art. It showed how he took pictures over years to create images within images.
3. The videos really were able to demonstrate how the camera and pictures have changed the world of art and whats viewed to be art in the recent path. Art isn't just the paintings and sculptures of the past it can be something as simple and complex as a still image captured in time and space.
4. I found the videos to be extremely interesting. They had a ton of information on a newer and interesting topic such as pictures, these videos helped make for a interesting look at the assignment we did early in the semester taking pictures to show elements of art.

Spanish art and Dada and Surrealism

1. I choose the videos on Spanish art and Dada and Surrealism because they give a true look into the mindset of the artist and the time period. They have a much darker but more real view on the life of the time. The art works created where that similar only to that possibly of the dark ages.
2. For the Spanish video is was shocking to see how many famous artist came out of the same era and place people such as Pablo Picasso and Dali to be living and creating works of art in the same time is amazing. Also its impressive to see the outside influences of the world on their works such as influences from France. For the video on Dada and Surrealism it was clear the darkness of the works of art. They were meant to demonstrate the grim realities often faced by everyone in life.
3. The video about Spanish art was good at furthering the understanding of how art in that area developed off of one another. Such as great artist being learned under by other future great artist. It demonstrated how the art forms in that area would develop and lead into Surrealism in other European areas.
4. I enjoyed both films and found them to be beneficial in deeping my understanding of each concept in place. However I believe the video on Surrealism could have been better put together it didn't flow together each section made it harder to see the links between them rather than having clear lines between the styles.
